New Acting Principal Announced for Rich Valley School
The Division is pleased to share that Mr. Rod Peterson has accepted the acting principalship at Rich Valley School, effective December 31, 2023.
Mr. Peterson has been a dedicated educator with Northern Gateway Public Schools for twenty years, teaching elementary students and helping to build the educational program at Rich Valley School through a demonstrated commitment to collaboration, relationships, and open communication where everyone has a voice. He brings a wealth of instructional expertise and leadership experience to the position honed over his years serving Rich Valley School in the additional roles of Lead Teacher, Mentor Teacher, and Inclusive Education Facilitator.
As a graduate of Onoway Jr/Sr High School, and a long-serving community member, Rod has a keen understanding of the school and local communities honed over his years as a teacher, coach, volunteer and administrator within Onoway Minor Hockey, the Northern Alberta Female Hockey Association, and the Rich Valley Ball Association.
NGPS Superintendent Kevin Bird commented, "Mr. Peterson's long standing role within the school and greater community, and extensive administrative experience as support to Principal Muir, will ensure a smooth transition in leadership at Rich Valley School. We are happy to have Rod take on this leadership role and look forward to his contributions at the local and division levels."

Mr. Peterson holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education in Leadership from City University of Seattle.
